Connecting Zoom to FORA
Setup Instructions
To connect your Zoom account to FORA and take advantage of our authenticated recording feature, sign in to FORA and select "Settings" from the settings cog in the top right navbar.
Once on the Settings page, select the "Data Sources" button to be taken to the data sources settings page https://app.fora.day/settings/sources
Click on the "Zoom" app to initiate the OAuth flow. You will be prompted with a Zoom page that will ask you to grant permissions to our FORA OAuth Zoom app. Once connected, if you navigate back to the data sources page, you should see "Zoom Connected"
App Functionality
After connecting your Zoom account to FORA, we will be able to provide you with a more seamless meeting recording experience. Using the Zoom API, we can provide our recording bots with an authenticated token that will allow the bot to join and record the meeting without being granted explicit permission from the host.
Within FORA, you still have control over who has access to the recordings and meeting data once a meeting recording starts and has concluded. This feature simply reduces the friction of having to explicitly allow the recording bot permission to record the meeting.
Once your Zoom app is connected, you're done! Simply start Zoom meetings as you normally would. The bot will be able to join your meetings and start recording automatically.

FORA Notetaker in Zoom FAQs
Why does FORA's AI Notetaker require the meeting's host to have record to computer permission?
Due to Zoom's recording policy, FORA's AI Notetaker must use the Zoom Meeting SDK to obtain permission from the meeting host to save the call recording
If FORA's AI Notetaker needs record to computer permission, why do I need to give that permission to all of my Zoom users?
The FORA AI Notetaker only needs the Hosts can give meeting participants permission to record to their computer permission. However, Zoom groups this permission within the Record to computer files section, making it impossible to enable this specific setting without also enabling local recording capabilities for all users.
Can I give the FORA AI Notetaker record to computer files permission instead of all of my users?
Unfortunately, this isn't possible. Since FORA's AI Notetaker is not a user within your organization's Zoom account, it must request Record to computer files permission directly from the meeting's host.
Are calls automatically downloaded to users' computers if they have Record to computer files permission?
No. The Zoom Record to computer files permission simply allows users to download recordings if they choose to, but doesn't automatically trigger any downloads.
We only use FORA's AI Notetaker to record calls scheduled by our customers (externally-organized calls). Do I need to make this change?
No. Your Zoom settings do not apply to users outside your organization. FORA's AI Notetaker will ask the meeting host for permission to record the call, and if granted, the meeting will be recorded and transcribed.
What happens if I don't give these permissions to my Zoom users?
The impact on your recording experience depends on how you record your meetings: Zoom native: meetings will continue to be recorded as usual. The FORA AI Notetaker is only used if your Zoom integration is set up user-by-user and a user hasn't connected FORA to Zoom, or if a FORA user does not have a Zoom license. If these users don't have Record to computer files permission, their meetings may not be recorded or transcribed. FORA AI Notetaker: we likely won't be able to record and transcribe your meetings.
If Record to computer files is enabled, will we be taking up storage on the end user's computer?
No, the FORA AI Notetaker records locally to its own system and doesn't save recordings on the end user's device.
When the waiting room is used, why does the AI Notetaker join together with the host and not wait in the waiting room?
This is defined by Zoom. The FORA AI Notetaker joins the meeting together with the host.
What happens if we don't install the Zoom Meetings - Recording Bot app?
The meeting host will need to manually approve the recording for each meeting they host, which could lead to inconsistent recording of meetings and transcripts.
